Mini Donkey Petting Farm

Everyone has a “dream”.  A dream that we say “one day, when I’m retired, I’ll do it” type of dream. For me, that was building and operating a “mini” event farm in the mountains to bring families together and reconnect them to nature and animals. I truly believe our society and mental wellbeing would improve if more people had access to bonding with animals and seeing the circle of life in action. I also wanted to create a space for healing of both people and animals.
My heart yearned to create this environment for my family, fellowman and animals. I was tired of saying “one day”, and instead made it a reality. So, while working several jobs I started researching, learning, and figuring out how to best start my event farm. I embarked on the adventure with a 1-acre farm and a dream of expanding to more acreage in the Ogden Valley one day…that day finally happened and we have expanded to a larger farm.
I started this dream so I could teach my children how to work hard, have ownership and stewardship over animals, how to properly care for and breed animals when needed, how to connect with the land around them, and truly love all of gods’ creations. I believe we have an obligation to re-connect ourselves and our families to these experiences, as they’ve been lost in our world today. Animals and nature are HEALING. It’s therapeutic to sit and experience a hands-on petting farm. Our mission at Darling Donkey is to be able to share this love and understanding with ALL who want to experience a mini-farm and the joy this experience can bring. This is a truly a unique and hands-on experience.

Hayley Smith
Owner

Born and raised in Southern California, Haley moved to Utah 17 years ago to finish her college degree. Her first summer up in the Beehive state, she went to Pineview Reservoir, and immediately knew she would one day live in that area and raise her family in that farm valley. Haley worked as a journalist and News Anchor for roughly 15 years, and while she loved that job, she always yearned and dreamed of creating a mini farm that the community to enjoy, heal, and slow down. So, a few years ago, after some life changes, she hung up her Anchorwoman hat for now, and set out to create the place she had always dreamed of for her family, children, and community! While it was one of the hardest decisions of her life, she is truly trying to live her dream and follow the path she feels her creator wants her to be on in this phase of life. She felt she needed to be done “waiting” to shoot for her dreams. She has been married for more than 15 years to the love of her life, and has 3 children.
