Enchanted Hollow Alpacas

I wanted something to retire to so 10 years ago we bought our first 5 alpacas and now have 32 alpacas with 12 cria (babies) due this Spring and Fall. We have had upwards of 60 alpacas but like to keep it to around 40. We have worked diligently improving our herd to become top show animals. We show our alpacas, we sell breedings to other farms, and we sell animals. We have an agritourism business on our farm and we also have a boutique where we sell everything alpaca. We shear yearly and use their fiber to make gloves, mittens, scarves, sweaters, dryer balls, felted soaps, etc. We also crochet little animals such as alpacas, bulls, elephants, bats, cows, etc. Alpaca fiber is considered the quality of cashmere and silk. It is lighter than wool but warmer and it has no lanolin in it so it is considered hypoallergenic and it is flame retardant. Pretty great stuff. Their manure is a great soil amendment. It is not hot and can be put directly on plants if needed without burning them. We love teaching about the alpaca and dispelling the myths surrounding this animal. Alpacas have a calm soothing nature and can be used for PTSD therapy. We have several large events on our farm throughout the year such as Baby Days, Christmas Wonderland, Fluffy Alpaca Days, and our Alpacalypse. Our farm is a great place to visit!

Royce grew up in the city, always dreaming of the country life. I, on the other hand, was raised on a farm and have always loved the country lifestyle. Animals have always been a part of our lives. We have 8 children, 22 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and two more on the way. We live in Elwood, UT, where Royce owns his own trucking company, and I’ve retired to our farm.
Our family truly enjoys the country life. Our son, son-in-law, and grandsons all either ride bulls or fight bulls. For the past 8 years, our grandsons have competed in the Jr. National Finals Rodeo (Jr. NFR). We grow a large garden each year and preserve our food through canning. We embrace the homesteading way of life, knowing we can take care of ourselves and our family in case of an emergency. I wanted something to look forward to in retirement, so 10 years ago, we bought our first 5 alpacas. Since then, we’ve had as many as 60 animals. Currently, we have 32 alpacas, with 12 cria (babies) expected in the Spring and Fall. We also raise chickens, and I’ve taken up raising canaries as well.
