Moonshadow Farm

Moonshadow Farm, formerly Ranui Gardens was founded by Steve and Jenny Erickson in 1984. Committed to organic and biodynamic practices, Ranui Gardens has grown high-quality, nutrient dense vegetables and herbs for over 40 years and is one of the oldest market gardens in Utah. Located in a valley in the foothills of the Uinta Mountains, the land has a rich history, first with the Shoshone people and then with early settlers who started using the land for dairy pasture. There is a perennial stream running through the farm, used for irrigation and culinary water, which separates the food grown from the land as exceptionally clean and delicious. Though this is to be confirmed, the house and original farm date back to 1957.

Ranui Gardens was one of the first vegetable farms at the Salt Lake City Farmers Market in 1992 and also at the Park City Farmers Market in 2001. The business was passed on from Steve and Jenny to John Garofalo and Sue Post, who ran Ranui Gardens for almost 20 years and integrated cut-flowers and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) into the business. After working for Ranui for four years, Andrea Morgan took over the business in 2018. She then bought the land from Steve and Jenny in 2024, renaming the business Moonshadow Farm. To this day, Andrea is using many of the same organic and biodynamic practices the farm was founded on and she plans to shift into a more education and community-focused market garden.

Andrea plans to have the roots of the farm grow deeper into sustainable agriculture. She intends to bring more people out to the farm during the growing season to learn, explore, connect and heal. This will include everything from farm tours, classes, events and intimate gatherings. As one of the first, pioneering market gardens of its type in Utah, Moonshadow Farm will continue to blaze the trail for connecting land, food and community.

Andrea Morgan
Owner

Andrea Morgan has been farming vegetables and cut-flowers since 2010. Originally from Park City, Utah, she learned how to farm commercially after studying agriculture and working at the student-run farm at the University of British Columbia. After working on a number of different farms throughout British Columbia, including meat, dairy, hops and vegetables, she ended up back in Utah working for Ranui Gardens, one of the first organic vegetable, herb and compost farms in Utah. After managing Ranui Gardens for a few years, she became the owner of the business and then in 2024, bought the land Ranui Gardens was founded on in Hoytsville. Andrea then renamed the farm Moonshadow Farm and is beginning a new chapter in the farm’s legacy. Andrea is the mother of a spunky daughter who loves bringing her bearded dragon lizard out to the field to bask in the summer sun. Andrea is an avid skier and enjoys hiking and rock climbing when she is not on the farm. She is committed to educating and bringing her community closer to agriculture.
